This Week in Cyber - Week of February 5th, 2021

Welcome to neoRhino IT Solutions' This Week in Cyber, where we provide weekly cybersecurity news and data breaches in snippets for you to keep you informed and aware of what's happening in the world of cybersecurity.

For the week ending on February 5th, 2021:

  • Teespring Users Had Private Information Breached: An unknown third party successfully breached popular merchandise creation site, Teespring, and stolen some of the company's databases, exposing some user information belonging to more than 8 million of the company's users. The two SQL files were compressed as a 7Zip archive, with the first containing user email addresses and the dates that the email addresses were last updated. Thankfully no passwords have been leaked but users should change their login information ASAP.
  • New Chrome Update Version Removes Flash And FTP: The latest Google Chrome update not only continues the initiative of removing the End-Of-Life (EOL) Adobe Flash Player program but also removes FTP functions as well. Upon the release of the Chrome 88, Google stated: "All FTP support is disabled. The legacy FTP implementation in Chrome has no support for encrypted connections (FTPS), nor proxies." And of course, Flash is eliminated as well, and blocks insecure downloads as well.
  • PIXLR Data Breach Information Leaked Online: Popular free photo creation site, PIXLR, was hacked. According to the company, the hackers made off with data from nearly two million users. The hackers have been identified as the group that goes by the name of "ShinyHunters," who are well known for stealing databases from high profile companies and selling stolen databases on the Dark Web. If you are a PIXLR user, change your password immediately.
  • Apple Will Add App Tracking Information To iOS: Recently, Apple announced two important new improvements to the way the company handles and tracks user data. That includes data used by third-party apps downloaded and installed from the Apple App Store. According to the company's statement, both changes would be available by late Spring 2021.
